WHEN HEROES ARE MADE
WHEN HEROES ARE MADE is the title of my brand new single honering the musher and sleddog teams as they cross the finishing line of a 4-600km long distance sleddog race, starting in Røros. The trail passes through the mountainous areas in the eight districts and the fascinating countryside of Sør-Trøndelag and Hedmark counties.
After being a part of our sleddog team during Finnmarksløpet 2010, I have never forgotten how their theme song "Conquest of paradise" moved me to tears as our musher and his dogteam crossed the finishing line the 1000km on the sled. Ever since, and whenever I hear that song again, the same feelings surface. The power of this experience has moved me to create a theme song for the biggest sleddog race in Europe, Femundløpet.
My friend, collegue and producer of my previous Christmas album, Øystein Lund Olafsen, has composed the melody to, and produced "Where heroes are made". My better half, Lars Monsen, who is the musher on our Team Komplettfritid, helped me to put words to a musher's thoughts during a long distance sleddog race, and thus contributed to the lyrics. Another friend of mine, actor Mikkel Gaup, translated the norwegian lyrics into sami, and speaks his native language on the verses of this song. Finally, I was lucky to get my guitarvirtuoso friend, Ronni LeTekrø, to play wonderful guitars on the track.
I am very happy about how the song turned out as it holds all the elements I felt were important in a song for this purpose. Upon producing this song, for some reason it never struck me that this would actually become an official single release. The only mission I had was to finish this song, and make sure it was just right and appropriate to fullfill the purpose of embracing the feelings of everyone involved in a long distance sleddog race. I don't think it is possible to relate to these emotions unless one has actually experienced a real life long distance sleddog race. However, I am pretty sure most of those involved in Femundløpet this year will be connecting powerful memories and impressions to "When heroes are made" as their dogteam cross the finishing line this year, and in the years to come.
Please enjoy WHEN HEROES ARE MADE
Love,
Trine
